This is the best book out of the 3 I have read about the Border Reivers. Alistair Moffat gives a good history about the Borderlands, telling stories from both sides. He punctuates the history with facts and figures about life in the by: 1.

Really good text. Written by a gentleman with an interest in border history rather than an accademic. A long with the MacDonald Fraser and Moffat books a go to text for such matters.
